"Fragrant Penguin" is a little, cold-weather friend who will warm your heart. The penguin will also keep your room freshly scented as it is made from a Renuzit® air freshener.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
The Dial Corporation Renuzit® LongLast® Adjustable Air Freshener*
Plastic Foam !word-removed!*: One each - 1", 1 1/4", and 2" diameter
Textured "snow" paint*
Acrylic paint*: Lamp black, Tangelo Orange, Calypso Blue, Yellow Light
Woodsies®*: 1 large (1" x 2") Rectangle
6" length of 1/8" diameter dowel*
1 Jumbo Craft Stick*
Foam sheets*: 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" piece of orange; 5" x 6" piece of black
Two 12 mm oval wiggle eyes
3 1/2" x 22" piece of multi-check fabric
White fine tip paint marker*
Pink blush (makeup)
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS:
Glue gun and glue sticks*; scissors*; paintbrush*; serrated knife; craft snip*; ruler.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1) HEAD: Use serrated knife to cut a 1" diameter slice off the bottom of 2 1/2" foam ball. Use glue gun to glue cut edge of ball to top of Renuzit® topper.
2) CHEEKS AND NOSE: To form cheeks, use serrated knife to cut 1" foam ball in half. For beak, using 1 1/4" foam ball, gently roll one end of ball on table forming a cone-shaped beak. Referring to photo, glue beak and cheeks to center of face approximately 1/4" above bottom of head.
3) ADD TEXTURE: Raise the Renuzit® topper so that there is 1/2" distance between bottom of topper and top of base. Use a Jumbo Craft Stick to apply textured snow to entire head (including cheeks and nose), topper, and around sides of base. Let dry thoroughly.
4) PAINT: Paint beak Tangelo Orange. Paint entire base Lamp Black. Referring to photo, paint head and topper Lamp Black, leaving front of face, cheeks and "tummy" area white. Use paintbrush to apply blush to cheeks.
5) EYES: Position and glue wiggle eyes to face just above beak and cheeks.
6) WINGS: Cut two wings from black foam sheets according to pattern. Glue wings to sides of body approximately 1/4" below the neck.
7) FEET: Cut two feet from orange foam sheet according to pattern. Refer to photo and glue feet to front of base at a slight angle.
8) SCARF: Cut a 3 1/2" x 22" piece of fabric. Wrap around neck and tie in a knot. Trim and fray ends as desired.
9) SIGN: Use craft snip to cut a 6" length of dowel. Paint dowel Yellow Light and Rectangle Calypso Blue. Let dry. Use paint marker to write "Chill Out!" on Rectangle. Glue one short side of Rectangle to top edge of dowel. Tack glue pole of sign to topper and wing.
10) GEL REPLACEMENT: When the original gel is depleted, simply replace with a new container base. If your project base is decorated, remove dried gel. From a new container, remove new, non-toxic gel. Then slip it over the post of the decorated base and reposition the decorated topper. View Pattern

Patterns are included with each project sheet. To use, place tracing paper over pattern and trace with pencil. Then fold and cut out both layers to create full size pattern. To attach patterns to felt or fabric, use pins or double-sided tape.
To reuse your character after the original gel is gone, simply place the decorated topper on a new air freshener base.
